August, WOW, What a Month Can Bring....

The month of August has not been boring....It's been a month of rain, clouds, sunshine, and lazy moments.  Behold, the Queen of Lazy Moments....
The Bees have been very busy, thankfully.  There is a nest of "ground bees" that are quite the bumblers.  They fly so slowly, often bounce off of me, and seem to emminate a tune of
"da dummm dee dump, dah dum dee dump....:
A very beautiful daughter came home for a summer visit....
So, we of course had a party....everyone was there...
Lots of laughter, lots of talking....
Dear, old friends Barry and Rabih...I knew Barry when I went to
NM State University
in another past lifetime.
I think they really like each other....

And these two beauties, Alex and Emma...
.It was just yesterday that we saw them coming forth into the world.
Siegy is such a beautiful, smart, savvy young woman.  Soooo, proud of her!

This month of August has brought forth tomatoes, thanks to the bees.  As of 8/20, they remain green.  I should have gone with my normal routine of putting them in around Apri l and may the fittest survive!  But, noooo, this year I waited until the end of May and thus, no summer tomatoes in August!!

It was a month that brought the Blue Angels to Seattle for Sea Fair.  They fly right over our house and it is so incredibly loud and the house
just shakes...
and rattles.

Zoooooommmmm.......

And while the Blue Angels were zooming, I put together a new composter.
Please note the many screws, bolts, buckles and pieces, pieces, pieces....

A 5 hour Saturday project thankfully passes inspection.

Oh, forgot to mention that we fit in a trip to Urgent Care (mini ER) because someone was having a few too many coughing fits....Thankfully, Siegy was home to help ease the tension and pass the time!

And then, on the 12th, it was Kim's birthday and we got to go to a magical place.  Friends Toni and Amanda (remember those book shelves?  That is Toni) have 10 acres of property at a place NW of Seattle called Marrowstone. They have been working their land for several years now and invited us, along with
Deb and Peter, to spend the weekend.
Amanda is in the middle with Peter to the right.

Our lodging.

Amanda and Toni's cabin with two soaking tubs...

Toni build this pagoda just before we arrived...it is an amazing structure with
5 huge beams holding it up.
When you sit in the middle, your voice echoes....echoes...........echoes....
The cute red building is another sleeping cottage.
And that's Casper smelling something.

Toni captures us as we eat one of several incredible meals.....

The kitchen....
with ALL the comforts .

A full moon in honor of Kim's birthday....
Crackling fires and good conversation!
A birthday celebration...So, so sweet!  Toni and Amanda gave us all party favors!!
When's the last time you got a birthday party favor??
Presentation is everything.
Deb made a very, very, yummmmmy cake....

Did I mention the food??
Amanda grilled some  figs.
Heavenly, indeed.

This was my breakfast one of the mornings.
Gratitude.

The dish washing crew.
We actually all "fought" over who got to do the dishes.

We did some bird watching.

Deb did downward facing dog as Casper gently instructs her on the finer points.

Peter and Toni discuss.......

Cribbage games were played....I will let you wonder who the ultimate weekend winner was.

More birds were spied....

Upward facing contemplation.

A mean game of badminton.

Hiding places.

Long walks...
Old WWII memorabilia--to keep the coastal waters safe.
And, I knew you were wondering!
It was very high tech given the circumstances.
Saw dust helps create up and coming compost.
Beauty.

Song birds.

Fun art

in many different places!

More beauty.  These 3 good friends.
I have no idea what they are discussing but they all care about it.

It was time to leave and as we left, we found a welcoming sign.

Amanda's mandala.

Back to Seattle...

And then!  I am not quite sure how this happened.  But, the story goes that a cat was bound for Russia and didn't make it to cargo in time.  So, the cat ends up at an office where all the staff fall in love with it and try to find it a home.  Alas, situations fall through.
Supervisors give a timeline and managerial reasons as to why the cat must move along.
I cannot stand the thought of the cat going to a shelter..
.Kim comes and meets her
and....
Welcome Luna!
We are ALL adjusting
from our own perspectives.
THEN, on top of all of this.
Serendipity wacks us in a parking lot of a QFC that we rarely go to!!!
We run into Melody after many years of being out of touch.
Some years ago, Mel lived with us for about 8 months.
And now,
Melody and Jonathan (little brother!) re-enter our life.
They are SMART, FUNNY, CAPABLE people and
May we never lose touch again.
(We have each others email addresses!)
This was sooo great!

And today, friend Harriet and daughter Kate come for a sweet lunchtime visit.

So here's the thing.
Writing this blog has overwhelmed me with the amount of abundance that this month has brought
Kim and me.
Siegy's greatly anticipated and welcome visit;  a new composter with hardly any pieces left over.
Kim's birthday, a beautiful weekend retreat with such good friends and an abundance of food.
A reunion with lost, loved children, now young adults.
"Two cats in the yard...."
And then this.
Next week we pack our bags and fly to Boston for a couple of nights.
Then we fly to Paris, switch planes and fly to Milan, Italy.
Find our way to the Milan train station and catch a train to....
Alessandria for three nights.
We will visit with Rita, her family, and other discovered friends.
Back to Milan where we catch a plane to Toulouse, France where we meet with friends Linde and Jean (who are flying in from Vienna).
Then, the four of us have rented a boat, that we will pilot and take down the River Lot.
No, none of us know how to pilot a boat.
We will go through many locks.
We can hardly wait.
We are so excited.
We are sooooooo lucky.
Sister Wendy already is packed.
For some reason, she has begun burning incense and
I do not believe it has anything to do with two cats in the house now.
My heart is full.
Stay tuned.
